Oils & Fats Calories

Calories from oils and fats, as the category name states, are usually all from fat rather than carbohydrates or protein. This does not mean, however, that these food products included in this calorie chart are unhealthy. Fat should make up a significant part of every balanced diet, regardless of personal needs, and may account for 20% to 40% of total daily calorie intake. Some diet plans, such as Atkins and Paleo, emphasize eating healthy fats from nuts, olives, hemp, sunflower, and avocados. Oils extracted from these sources are recommended for cooking. Even real butter can be a healthy source of fat as long as consumption isnโ€™t excessive. For example, a pat of pure butter on toast is acceptable for most people, except when a doctor or dietician has recommended limited cholesterol intake. The best fats are polyunsaturated and monounsaturated, whereas trans fats should be avoided at all times; check nutrition facts to distinguish which types of oils and fats are in your favorite foods.
